Application for Clergy Approval
The Chaplain's Office at Lancaster County
Prison encourages clergy involvement. To be placed on the Approved Clergy
List for visitation: Complete the “Application for Clergy Approval” form.
Send the form and endorsement letter to:
The Chaplain’s Office
Lancaster County Prison
625 East King Street
Lancaster, PA 17602
You will receive a phone call from the Chaplain’s Office after we are
notified of your approval.
Clergy visitation is by appointment only. When calling the Chaplain’s
Office to make an appointment to visit an inmate, give day and time of
desired visit, your name, church, and name of the inmate you wish to
visit. The appointment will need to be made at least a day in advance. The
Chaplain's Office is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visiting
hours Sunday through Saturday are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily.
Plan to arrive approximately 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
Visits are scheduled on the hour. This allows time for the officers to
inform the inmate that they have a minister visit and time for the inmate
to get ready. You are permitted to visit two inmates per day. (NOTE:
You may not use clergy visitation to see a family member who is
incarcerated. You must be put on their general visitation list. If family
members are concerned about an inmate’s spiritual needs, these can be
handled through the chaplain or another approved clergy.)
You are not permitted to give or receive ANYTHING directly to or from an
inmate. If you wish to give someone a Bible or religious material: 1) Put
the inmate's name inside, 2) Place it in a bag with "Chaplain's Office" on
the outside, 3) Give it to the officer at the window. The chaplain will
check it for approval it and give it to the inmate at a later time.
Include your name and phone number; if the items can not be approved, you
will be notified. Make sure it does not contain ANY CONTRABAND. Contraband
consists of such things as:
- anything sticky (tape, stickers,
post-it notes, etc.)
- plastics or lamination (tabs,
bookmarks, etc.)
- whiteout, crayon, etc.
- note paper, envelopes, stamps, etc.
- spiral bound books, wire or plastic.
Bibles, correspondence Bible studies,
devotional guides, and other religious materials are available from the
Chaplain’s Office by inmate request. Inmates are not permitted to have
excessive materials in their cells.
Mailing Guidelines: Items with return addresses from religious
organizations are directed through the Chaplain’s Office. The Chaplain’s
Office is only permitted to approve religious materials. If you are
sending something that is not religious, please do not use an envelope
with a religious return address.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact the Chaplain’s
Office at (717) 295-2089.
